It is with deep sadness that the family of Alfred Otto Single announce his peaceful passing on October 14, 2025, at the age of 94 years at Fairview Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba.
Alfred will be lovingly remembered by his son Wayne (Doris) and their two sons, Michael (Karen) and Andrew; and his second son Donald (Derik). He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren Mackayla, Axel, and Parker. Alfred leaves to mourn his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bernhard and Elizabeth Single; his beloved wife, Annie; and his siblings Wilhelmina, John, Kay, William, Louise, Reinhold, Martha, Lydia, Erna, Elsie, Adeline, Eleonor, and Edward. Alfred was the last surviving child of his parents' 14 children.
Alfred was born on August 25, 1931, in Waldersee, Manitoba. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and playing hockey for the Waldersee team. on June 9, 1956, Alfred married Annie Margaret Kramer at Christ Lutheran Church. Together they built a life filled with family, hard work, and shared joys.
After initially living with his parents on the farm, Alfred and Annie moved to Brandon in 1957, where Alfred worked at Brandon Packers and later as a beer waiter. In 1959, they returned to the farm with their first son, Wayne, where Alfred continued blacksmithing and farming, and where their second son, Donald, was born. Then in 1968, Alfred began working at the Gypsum Mine in Amaranth, and then the family relocated back to Brandon in 1970, where he worked as a welder for Canadian Steel Tank until retirement.
Alfred had a lifelong love of sports and the outdoors. He enjoyed hockey, golf, curling, hunting, fishing, and camping-many of these pastimes shared alongside Annie, the love of his life.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Fairview Care Home for their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Waldersee, Manitoba. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
