CLARE MOIR

Clare Arthur Campbell Moir was born on the family farm in Whitehead Municipality to Art and Gert Moir on December 13, 1945. He enjoyed his childhood years on the farm with sister Heather and brother Cameron. The family moved to Griswold where he went to school and made lifelong friends then graduated from Brandon Vincent Massey High School in 1964.

While in high school, he spent a lot of time at the Patterson farm, south and east of Griswold, with his five great uncles. They fostered his love of farming.

Clare attended the Manitoba Vocational Centre in Brandon where he completed a 10 month course in farm mechanics in June 1968. The skills he learned there would serve him well through his years of farming, his antique tractor restorations, contributing to the Antique Power Equipment Club and keeping the skid working at the tractor pull events.

Clare and Agnes met through mutual friends and were married April 5, 1975. They moved to the half section where Clare was born and decided to grain farm. Erin was born in 1976 and Charlene in 1979.

He saw the opportunity and started hauling pregnant mare urine (PMU) in the winter months. He hauled PMU into the Ayerst Plant in Brandon for 23 years. He enjoyed visiting with his producers while loading up, socializing with the Ayerst plant workers and the other drivers hauling to the plant.

Clare was a doer. He got involved. He gave freely of time and effort to create and nurture the communities that surrounded him.

When the four grandchildren visited the farm, he would be busy tuning up quads, the side by side and skidoos to keep them occupied.

Clare and Agnes enjoyed many holidays and tours with friends and family. Keeping with his lifelong theme of tying trips to reconnect with family, they travelled to Australia in 2012 and Scotland with Heather and Cameron in 2018.

Clare was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy and with the help of friends and family remained on the farm for a period of time but moved into Brandon in 2023 where home care was available and allowed him to stay at home. He moved into Souris Personal Care Home in October 2024. He knew a lot of the staff and residents and had lots of visitors. He enjoyed the freedom to roam with his electric wheelchair, enjoying the outdoors and touring around the neighbourhood. Clare passed on November 10th with family by his side.

His funeral service was held at Griswold United Church on Saturday November 15, 2025 with Tanis Podobni officiating. Thank you to Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home Souris for helping with the arrangements.

Clare will be lovingly remembered by his wife Agnes of 50 years and their children and grandchildren: Erin and Jack Meikle, Alice and Mary Meikle, Charlene and Kevin Currie, Aiden and Alex Currie. Clare is also survived by Sister Heather Williams, Brother Cameron Moir, Sister-in-law Margaret Swidnicki, Brother-in-law Donnie and Clara Finlayson also numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Clare was predeceased by Parents Art and Gert Moir and Parents-in-law John and Reta Finlayson.
