Dr. Alexander David Runcie of Brandon, passed away on Saturday November 29, 2025.
"Sandy" was born in Kirkwall, Scotland, to Dr. Alec and Doris Runcie. He grew up in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, and attended Kirkcaldy High School, where he was Head Boy, captain of the rugby team and long jump champion.
He studied dentistry at St Andrew’s University in Scotland and remembered his years there as some of his happiest times. He was a keen mountaineer as a student and scaled peaks all over Europe and Greenland. After graduating in 1968, he married Dulcie (née Reilly) and emigrated to Canada a week later.
He worked first at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg and then in Hamiota before settling down in Brandon, where he practiced for 35 years.
We were all in awe of his artistic abilities and his sculptures, drawings and wood carvings are cherished by friends and family alike. His intellectual pursuits over the years included astronomy, geology and Civil War history. He never stopped learning and developing new skills.
Sandy is survived by his wife, Dulcie, and their three children: Catriona (Dimitri), Colleen (Mark) and Callum (Laura), as well as six grandchildren (in order of age): Sasha, Ben, Maisie, Max, Will and CJ. He is also survived by his sister, Alison Sangster, and her four children in Scotland.
