HARVEY HURREN

Harvey was born on the family farm in Torquay, Saskatchewan on December 21, 1939. Harvey passed away March 23, 2026, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He attended teacher’s college in Winnipeg where he met his wife, Ethel, then taught in northern Manitoba for a number of years. During the summers he would return to Winnipeg to attend University of Winnipeg where he attained a BA in history.

With two young daughters in tow, Harvey and Ethel returned to southern Manitoba where Harvey spent two years as principal of the elementary school in Oak Lake. It was then that Harvey decided to follow his calling and attended St. Andrew’s Theological College in Saskatoon. During these student years, two boys were added to the family.

Never one to sit still, Harvey served as minister in many towns and rural areas through southern Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan in a career that lasted over 50 years.

You could always tell where Harvey was by listening for his whistling or his boisterous laugh. He loved the prairies and Dairy Queen, was an avid gardener, had some fabulous times in local theatre productions, and was usually seen getting around town on his bike. Harvey looked forward to participating in parades and, in later years, volunteering at the Scottish pavilion.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters, Laura (Shane, children Rob, Laine, Brittney, Kendra), and Lesley (Roger, children Gregory and Kit); sons, Jeff (Cindy, children CJ and Tristan), and James (children Christine and Matthew).

A memorial service will be held at Knox United Church, Brandon, Manitoba, to be announced at a later date.
