With family by his side, Ted passed away on October 1, 2025. Ted was born on May 24, 1946, in Kingston, Ontario, to Russ and Helen Stanley (nee Malone). Brandon became his home town as an infant. He was later joined by two siblings, Elaine and Jerry. Ted attended school in Brandon at St. Augustine’s and Vincent Massey.
Ted was introduced to fishing as a child and discovered his lifelong hobby, enjoying both the peace and challenge of fishing. Ted fished in many surrounding areas but the most frequent were Souris, Cornwallis and his favorite place, Dinsdale Park.
In Ted’s youth, he would draw and had the patience to do model cars, airplanes and ships. Both these hobbies drew on his ability to be meticulous to detail. This skill was highly relevant in his career.
Ted was an automotive mechanic in his early career and then in the 1980’s he became a tow truck driver working first with Ace Towing, then RWM Towing and finally CAA Manitoba until his retirement in 2015 at the age of 69 years. Ted was a dedicated hard worker and remained a tow truck driver at heart up to his passing. Any tow truck spotted in traffic around town quickly got Ted’s full attention.
In 1980, Ted met his soulmate, Joanne Rollins and so began their 32-year relationship until her passing in 2012. This relationship brought Patti and Kelly into his life and then eventually grandsons Mike, Chris, Dennis and Shawn. Bandit, the family dog, was very treasured by Ted. Ted enjoyed country music, live bands and dancing with Joanne.
Ted is survived by his son Kelly (Tracey and Kyle) Rollins; grandsons Mike (Ashley) Rollins, Chris (Viv) Rollins, Dennis (Crystal) Rollins and Shawn (Jasmine and Andre) Drinkwater; his sister Elaine (GW) Stanley; his niece Kim Stanley; his brother Jerry (Roberta and family) Stanley and numerous cousins.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, Russ and Helen Stanley; his wife Joanne Rollins; and his daughter Patti Rollins.
Ted was laid to rest beside Joanne on October 8, 2025, at the Rapid City Cemetery. Pall bearers were Kelly, Mike, Chris, and Dennis Rollins, Shawn Drinkwater and Devon Bonnett. Thank you to all who attended Ted’s service and to those who shared stories about Ted. Thank you to Jeremy and staff at Brockie Donovan, and Shelley Wray/Officiant, for your care and kindness during this difficult time.
