CHARLES EDWIN RASMUSSEN (ED) 1943 - 2005 Charles Edwin Rasmussen (Ed) was suddenly taken from us on October 3, 2005. Ed was born on June 20, 1943 in Vancouver, BC. His family relocated to Arborg, MB in 1945. In 1954, his family moved to the city and Winnipeg was the place he called home until his untimely death. Ed loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was fiercely proud of his sons, Myles and Mark and his stepsons, James, Stuart and David. He was a loving supportive husband to his precious and beloved Diana. He loved his house and the home he had created with Diana for his family. Ed loved to be around people, his family meant everything to him and he delighted in our many family gatherings. His mom held a special place in his heart and he spent much time assisting her along her life journey. He freely volunteered his time and his many talents whenever and wherever needed. In recent years, he worked tirelessly for the ALS Society of Manitoba. He found immense pleasure in building and tinkering with cars. Ed enjoyed golfing, curling and had been active in many sports during his life, winning several awards. In his later years, he was a great jazz enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed the Winnipeg jazz scene. Ed's work life spanned four decades. He began his career at Deer Lodge Hospital in 1961 and retired from Veterans Affairs in 1997. He was well respected by his colleagues and the advocacy and assistance he provided to many of Canada's veterans has not gone unnoticed. Ed leaves to mourn his death his loving wife Diana; his sons, Myles and Mark (Sabrina); his stepsons, James, Stuart and David. His mother Scotty, brother Ken (Joanne), sister Dianne (Paul), sister-in-law Nancy will greatly miss him. His mother-in-law Eileen and brother-in-law Henry Pullen will never forget his laugh, his smile and his never-ending sense of humour. His niece Kisha and his nephews, Justin (Renee), Jason (Leanne) and Bennett will always have wonderful memories of Uncle Ed. His best and lifelong friend Phil Forbes (Bev) is deeply saddened by the passing of such a true and faithful friend. Ed is also survived by his aunts and his many cousins. His dear furkids, Amik and Max are missing their buddy... Ed was predeceased by his father Hans Otto (Butch), his first wife Lorraine, his sister Elaine, his brother Gord, his sister-in-law Betty Lou Baros, his maternal and paternal grandparents and many of his uncles and aunts and his cousins. A funeral service to celebrate his life and honor his memory will take place on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Fr. David Brabant, a lifetime friend of the family, will preside over the service. Viewing will take place one hour prior to commencement of the service. Interment of his cremated remains will take place in St. Vital Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so chosen, we are certain Ed would appreciate donations to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. Always in our hearts... Never to be forgotten...Forever loved...
