Date of Passing: Oct 14, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARRY ANDREW THOMPSON It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Garry Andrew Thompson beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle on Friday, October 14, 2005 in Calgary. Garry lost a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Winnipeg, he devoted his life to raising his family and working in the automotive industry. Garry made many friends through his love of curling, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and throughout his many years with Chrysler. Dad was famous for hosting family at his (not to be missed) Sunday morning BBQ breakfast. In 1994 a work opportunity took him and Donna on an adventure to Calgary, where he experienced an exceptional career and employer. They both fell in love with the City and they chose to remain in Calgary in retirement. He loved hosting family and visitors in Calgary and took much pride in touring everyone around his adopted city and province, advising all he had a secret spot that no one else knew about, only to discover it was crowded when we arrived. He had many wonderful travels over the years and shortly before his illness he and Donna realized his long dreamed of trip to the West Coast to see and experience the Tall Ships. He talked about how much he enjoyed that trip during his brief illness. Garry was a very devoted husband and father and grandfather and took great pride in his family and his work. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Garry is survived by his beloved wife Donna, his three sons, Jim (Jo-Anne), Bob, Glenn (Brenda), all of Winnipeg, and five grandchildren, Scott, Jennifer, Brianne, Taryn, and Sydney, and his sister Gail and brother-in-law Gordon Beck of White Rock BC, his mother-in-law Marion McDonald of Winnipeg as well as brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday October 21 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit and Chinook Hospice in Calgary for their wonderful care and compassion during a difficult period. Their assistance was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada or Chinook Hospice in Calgary.
