RUTH C. RAVEN On December 2, 2005, Ruth passed away at Riverview Health Centre. She was born in Dundas, ON on December 12, 1914, daughter to Vincent and Annie Raven. At the age of 12, Ruth moved with her parents and sister to Winnipeg from Toronto. She resided in the family home in the Wolsely area for 75 years before moving to Amber Meadow. In her teen years, Ruth spent many enjoyable hours at the YWCA where she eventually became employed as a Group Youth Worker. She graduated from the University of Manitoba School of Social Work in 1947 and began her career at the Family Bureau working with troubled families and children. In 1953, Ruth joined the Province of Manitoba Department of Welfare soon becoming Director of Adoption Services. She enriched many lives during her 26 year career from which she retired in 1979. Music was an integral part of Ruth's life. She belonged to the Women's Musical Club and sang with the St. Stephen's Church Choir and the Oriana Singers. Ruth had a passion for travel and it gave her great pleasure when she was able to meet with her relatives around the world. In particular, she enjoyed Mozart Concert Tours and the very special Caribbean Cruise with her family. Her accumulation of photographic slides served as a history of her extensive travels and she gladly presented them as travelogues to many seniors' groups. Ruth loved to read and had a fine collection of books on Art, Music, Travel and Interior Design to mention only a few. Ruth was generous with her time and readily volunteered her services. She was a humanitarian who supported many charitable organizations and was especially sensitive to issues concerning animal welfare, world wide poverty and preservation of the environment. Ruth was very proud of her family and especially interested in the activities of her young nephews and nieces. She was a good friend to many and treasured the friendships that she kept during her lifetime. She is survived by her sister Doris Newall who will cherish the memories they shared. Ruth was a dear and loving Aunt to Patty (Rick) Harman, John (Cathy) Newall, Bill (Donna) Newall; Great Aunt to Rhonda Harman (Blaine Early), Donna (Ross) Rybak, Trevor Harman, Scott and Jamie Newall; Great-Great Aunt to Laney, Logan and Rickay Harman, Braedon Rybak, Bret and Miranda Early. The family expresses their sincerest thanks to all of the wonderful staff and volunteers on the Riverview Palliative Care Unit 3E who always had a kind word and a helping hand. If friends so desire, donations to the charity of their choice would be appreciated. In accordance with Ruth's wishes, a private family gathering will be held. Those we hold most dear, Live on in the kindnesses they showed, And the love they brought into our lives WOJCIK'S 897 - 4665
