ROBERT JOHN ARTHUR POIRIER Peacefully, on January 1, 2006, Rob passed away at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Rob's partner and devoted companion Phil, along with friends and family were with him during his final hours. Rob was born in Grand Prairie, Alberta on October 26, 1969, to Robert and Pauline Poirier. He was predeceased by his father but leaves his partner Phil, his mother Pauline, older brother Tony (Shirley) and sisters Diane and Catherine (Barry) to mourn his passing. Rob will also be sadly missed by his nieces, Brenda and Debbie; nephews, Chad, Joshua and Mathew; and great-nephews Saul and Kieran. Rob also leaves behind a large circle of friends who loved him dearly. Rob's path in life took him from his beginning in Grande Prairie, Alberta to Quebec City, Winnipeg, Kenora, Brandon, Abbotsford, BC, and back again to Winnipeg. He always considered Winnipeg to be his one true home and spent his happiest years here with a close group of friends, family and of course his beloved animals, especially Munchkin. Rob graduated high school from Kildonan East Collegiate and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Manitoba and completed his education at Brandon Hospital to become a Medical Lab Technologist. Work, however, was never the focus of Rob's life - his friends and family were. In healthier times, he could always be counted on to come up with many ideas for having fun and had the enviable ability to find joy in simple pleasures. He loved his Christmas Sleigh rides out at Birds Hill Park. Rob was an animal lover who could not turn away any stray and opened his heart and home to many of his four-legged friends. At the time of his death, Rob was the proud papa of numerous dogs and cats who will also feel his absence. While we, his family and friends, are reluctant to let him go, we know that he is finally at peace. In lieu of flowers, Rob would have wanted donations to be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in his memory. Rob's family and friends offer sincere thanks to Dr. Eschun, Beverley, Sue, Rhonda and all the many other caring staff at Concordia Hospital ICU for their compassionate care of Rob and all of us during this difficult time. Services will be held on Thursday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Cremation to follow. At his request, Rob's final resting place will be beside his father in Alberta and also at the top of Whistlers Mountain near Jasper. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor - 338-0331
