Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDREW PORTEOUS May 8, 1903 - January 13, 2006 Peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2006 Andrew Porteous passed away at the age of 102 years at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. Born to Samuel R. and Sarah Porteous in Listowel, ON, Andy was one of 8 sons and 1 daughter and is the last of that generation. He was 9 years old when the family moved to NE 9-14-2W at Woodlands, MB. The family home is still in use. Andy worked on the parental farm/dairy and then spent a few years with United Grain Growers helping build elevators. After moving to the village in 1964, he worked with the Highways Department in this locality. He married Hazel M Lillies (Frank and Mabel) December 10, 1940. Hazel passed away in October, 1997. There were no children. They moved into Oak Park Lodge in 1991, and enjoyed the move. In August 2002, Andy decided to go to Rosewood where he could receive more health care, though he still went down to the lounge every day with his walker, and still had a good appetite. Though his eyesight and hearing was not good, he still remembered things well. Andy enjoyed hockey, baseball, and he and Hazel were a familiar figure on a dance floor. The Porteous brothers had their own hockey team when they were all young men, and used to challenge other families to a game. There are numerous nieces and nephews scattered around the country; his namesake Andy (Linda Swartz) in Aurora, ON; 3 sisters-in-law still alive at Woodlands, Barbara (Bill), Violet (Dick), and Rhea (Burns). According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
