ERNEST OSCAR TIRSCHMANN On Saturday, January 14, 2006, Ernest Oscar Tirschmann of Beausejour, MB unexpectedly passed away at Grandview Hospital with his son at his side. Ernie leaves behind his loving wife Gloria (nee Welz) of 44 years and his sons, Douglas of Roblin, Brent and daughter-in-law Andrea of Winnipeg. Ernie will be sadly missed by his sister Joyce Peterson of Brandon; brother Don (Jacqui) of Winnipeg; his brothers-in-law, Walter (Jan) Welz of Barriere, BC and Don (Nadine) Welz of Seven Sisters; his aunts, Hannah and Martha, both of Ontario, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ernie was predeceased by his father Arthur, his mother Olga (nee Klaprat); brother Harold and sister-in-law Dorothy; father-in-law and mother-in-law Emil and Alvina Welz; brother-in-law John Peterson and nephew Karl Tirschmann. On August 12, 1936, Ernie was born at home on a small farm near Seven Sisters Falls. There he learnt hunting, fishing and outdoor skills from his father Arthur and older brother Harold. Ernie was taught business and family skills by his mother Olga, who ran the Village Inn Restaurant in Seven Sisters. On October 13, 1961, Ernie was united in marriage to Gloria Welz. Ernie's work career started early, on nearby family farms. In the 1950's, he began a career with the Department of Natural Resources as a forest ranger/conservation officer and worked in the districts of Hadashville, Sherridon, Cranberry Portage and Lake Winnipeg (East). In 1969, Ernie left the department to start a new career in the logging/sawmill industry with Prendiville Sawmills at Atik, near The Pas. In 1973, Ernie became General Manager of Roblin Forest Products where he successfully ran the business for 25 years. He was well respected by his peers in the business community as well as past employees. In 1998, Ernie and Gloria embarked on a new stage in their lives. They retired and moved to Beausejour where their new home was built. They enjoyed many motor trips throughout Canada and the United States. Ernie was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them; enjoying barbeques and telling stories on the back deck. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons, fishing with family and many day trips with Gloria, his lifelong partner and best friend. Ernie took pride in everything he did, helping family, friends, and neighbours and enjoyed being a council member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. A celebration of Ernie's life will begin with prayers at 7:30 p.m. and viewing till 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB, Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, River Hills, MB, Pastor George Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in Ernie's memory may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, River Hills, MB, R0E 1T0 or to a charity of one's choice.
