GERALD GUSTAV RATTAI Suddenly, after a long battle with cancer and a heart condition, Gerry passed away on Friday, January 20, 2006 at the age of 69 years. Gerry will live on in the memories of his spouse Marilyn, his daughter Jodi, and his son James. He will be sorely missed by his granddaughter Cheyauna and his grandson Brady. He was predeceased by his sisters, Patsy and Beverly and his parents, Beatrice and August. Gerry retired from the University of Manitoba, where he was well known and respected. His love of nature will not be forgotten. Taking August off, you would catch him on the Winnipeg River, fishing with his cousin Joe Bay, two great fishermen that the river will never see again. The family always took pleasure in the smoked goldeye that he made during the summer. He took great pleasure in feeding his ducks and geese in St. Germain and talking to people who would stop and take time to look at the geese. The geese still land there each spring on Forbes Road. Gerry would often head into the bush around Beausejour, picking blueberries for homemade pies and enjoyed oil painting wonderful nature scenes. With Marilyn by his side and hammer in hand, Gerry built two beautiful homes and a cabin. He took the time to repair his vehicles and was a great mentor when it came to home renovation. He was greatly interested in the future of Canada and had told a Conservative representative that he would vote, even if he had to crawl to the voting booth. Gerry also enjoyed telling stories to anyone who would listen and pulled practical jokes on family and friends on a regular basis. Gerry's funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m., in the Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, with Pastor Larry Ulrich officiating. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or WRHA Palliative Care Subprogram, A8024-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. The fish bite better when it's raining Gerry's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
