ROSE (BREMNER) NEWSON Rose passed away February 24, 2006 at Grace Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, coming to Canada at an early age. Rose was employed by the T. Eaton Co. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Robert, and was predeceased by her first husband Alex in 1979. Rose also leaves to mourn her stepson Robert (Linda) and family in England, nephew Angus Whyte and James Simpson and family, niece Dorothy Lamont in Scotland, niece Sophie Richey and sons Doug (Sylvia) and Brian (Diana) great-nieces Roberta (Dan), Wynn (David), great-nephew Craig (Maria) in California, niece Rose Blair in North Bay, nephew Jim (Sheena), Alex (Darlene) in Winnipeg, plus a number of great-nieces and nephews. Rose has been a long time member of St. James United Church since 1943, a member of the seniors choir, leader in her UCW. She looked after the Junior and Intermediate choir. Rose was President of the Senior Citizen Group and was presented with the Winston Armstrong Trophy for her work in the church. She was also flower convener, taking flowers to the sick and shut-ins, many times from her own garden on River Oak Drive. Rose was presented with a lifetime membership to the United Church and also from the St. James Horticulture Society. She won many cups for her garden and also won the Grand Champion for Manitoba. Rose and her former husband Alex Bremner acted as flower judges at the International Flower Show and enjoyed many friendships. Service to be held at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
