Bill was born on June 4, 1938 in Winnipeg to William and Lillian Porter. He graduated from St. James Collegiate in 1954. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1958. He met his first wife Arleigh Perkins at the Winnipeg Roller Rink where they skated and performed competitively for 5 years. They were married in 1959 and had two sons Casey and Stephen. Bill served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1959 to 1962. After his service, he received his Degree in Education and taught high school in St. Boniface. Marion and Bill lived in Winnipeg, Ottawa and finally moved to Toronto in 2002. Their love for one another was always evident. Bill was always best with her beside him.
