WILLIAM EARL RASMUSSEN 1916 - 2006 On April 1, our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. He is left with loving memories from his wife Jean of 62 years; sons Larry (Terry), Dale (Patti),; granddaughter Tammy Jewell (Keith); grandson Christopher and their mother Barb Hellofs and great granddaughter Carley. He is also survived by his brother Russell (Bette); sister-in-law Irvy Rasmussen; sister and brother-in-law Marguerite and Scot Duguid; brother-in-law Gerald Smith and many nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Addie Rasmussen and brother Alfred Rasmussen. Bill was born on March 25, 1916 and was raised in Carberry, MB. He attended Dominion Business College in Winnipeg. After business schooling he was employed by Anglo Canadian Oils in Brandon, followed by 4 years of service in the Canadian Army. He was discharged in January 1946 and then moved to Winnipeg where he worked at Air Canada for 3 years. He eventually gained employment with Manitoba Telephone Systems and retired in 1979 with 29 years of service. His hobbies included mechanics and after retirement he spent 3 years working with his son Dale at his service station. Bill and Jean moved to Calgary in 1988 but moved back to Winnipeg in 1996 to be closer to their immediate family. His family were very important to him and he was always willing to help them in anyway he could. The family would like to thank Dr. Hartley, Brenda, the Palliative care nurses and the doctors at the St. Boniface Hospital. In accordance with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place. A service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca Flowers are gratefully declined and remembrances may be made to the Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association in Bill's memory.
