WALTER PORBANIC Walter Porbanic passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego on May 5, 2006. Walter moved to San Diego to live next door to his eldest daughter in 2005 after living in Covina for 47 years. He was born into a large family of six brothers and five sisters on September 1, 1925 in Winnipeg, Canada. During the Second World War, he served in the Canadian Air Force where he developed skills working with sheet metal and working on aircraft. After the war, he met his beautiful wife, Eleanore. They were married on July 19, 1947. They had three children together, Elaine, Wendy and John. Walter worked in the sheet metal trade for over 40 years. He took pride in his work and would point out buildings and other structures he had worked on throughout southern California. He retired in 1987 and purchased a cabin at Lake Arrowhead, where he and Eleanore would go to enjoy the fresh mountain air and spend holidays and weekends with family. When his beloved wife, Eleanore, suffered a stroke in 2000, Walter became her primary caregiver and devoted the remainder of his life to her care. He was a great man who always put his family's needs ahead of his own. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Eleanore Porbanic; his daughter and husband, Elaine and Terry Salmon; his daughter and husband, Wendy and Jim Hartman; his son and wife, John and Kim Porbanic; his grandchildren Casey, Robin and Spencer Salmon; Kelly and Megan Hartman; and Mackenzie Porbanic. Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 314 West Workman St. in Covina, CA, 91723. He lead a full wonderful life and we will miss him. We love you Dad, Grandpa, friend.
