ALEXANDER ROBERT POROSKY It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Alexander Robert Porosky on Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Gimli Community Health center at the age of 86 years. Alex is predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Ksenia (nee: Kushnier) and his brother William (Bill) Porosky. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lillian (nee: Kreutzer); daughter Pat (Murray) of Winnipeg; son Ken (Patti) of Minneapolis; 3 grandsons, Chad (Mimi) of Toronto, Scott (Alessandra) of Brazil and Michael of Winnipeg; granddaughters, Karen (Rick) and Paula (Ryan and Kelly) of Winnipeg. Alex was born in 1919 in Swift Current, SK and moved with his parents at an early age to Manitoba. After serving in the army he married Lillian and settled in the Plumas area. He spent his life grain farming and operating a Massey Harris dealership with his brother Bill. Alex enjoyed all sports, participating in baseball, curling and golfing. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and also umpired many games in the area at local sports days. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Many weekends were spent traveling in the motorhome to Waterhen and Lake of the Prairies. Grandpa took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge with his grandchildren. Alex was a proud member of the Plumas Lion's club and the volunteer fire department. He spent many hours volunteering his time to community work and enjoyed evenings spent with family and friends playing cards. In 2000 Alex and Lil moved to their present home at the Gimli Waterfront center. He was a member of the New Horizions 55+ activity center and participated in carpet bowling. Cheers could be heard when the blind man made the shots! He will be missed by everyone at the Waterfront Center and all his card playing buddies. Alex filled his 86 years with many journeys and was very active until his passing. His will be big shoes to fill. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli with Pastor Ron Vert officiating. Interment will follow in the Gimli Community cemetery columbarium. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Alex's name can be made to CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave, Wpg, MB., R3G 3M3. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
