KATHERINE BECKTA (nee Kabaluk) On Monday, June 12, 2006 at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, MB, Katherine Beckta passed away peacefully after a short illness just a few days shy of her 91st birthday. She was born in Landerville, MB on June 30, 1915 to John and Anna Kabaluk. Kay and her late husband Walter owned and operated the Walbec Theatre in Lac du Bonnet for many years. She also operated her own hairdressing shop in Lac du Bonnet and later in Winnipeg. Kay owned and operated an apartment block in Winnipeg for over 50 years, leaving in May 2005 two months before her 90th birthday. She was a kind, caring and generous person and will be missed by all who knew her. Kay was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Bill, Mike, Pete and Dan; sister-in-law Dora (Mike). She is survived by three sisters- in-law, Anna (Bill), Anna (Pete) and Helen Sokulski (Dan), and by her six nephews and three nieces. Prayers will be held on Friday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. from Russell Funeral Home, Beausejour, MB. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. from the Notre Dame du Lac Parish, Lac du Bonnet, MB with Fr. Taras Kowch presiding. Interment will be in the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial donations in memory may be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 9Z9.
