SHIRLEY FRANCES POOLE August 10, 1928 - June 30, 2006 After a lengthy illness Shirley Frances Poole passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Friday June 30, 2006, at the age of 77 years, with her daughter Heather Poole and sister-in-law Kathleen Poole by her side. Having been predeceased by her daughter Susan Harvey only 11 months earlier. Shirley was also predeceased by her husband Leslie Poole, sisters Marion Sweet (of Ottawa) and Beverley Maxom (of Aylmer, Quebec) and a brother Oral Brownlee (of Ottawa); also her parents Thomas and Ethel Brownlee (of Ottawa). Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Heather Poole; son Steven Poole; sister Gladys Tripp (of Ottawa); grandchildren, Claire and Neil Harvey; son-in-law Malcolm Harvey; sister-in-law Kathleen Poole, sister-in-law Isabel Poole and family (USA). Terry (Brownlee) of Toronto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the Ottawa Valley Region, and many relatives and friends here and abroad. Shirley also had what she called her special adopted' daughters, Sandra Smit of California, who would drop what she was doing and come to see her at a moments notice, and Kathy Kauffman of Virginia, and it was Kathy who called her every night that she was in the hospital and they would talk for hours, also Barbara Goold of Toronto who would send her special Home Made Get Well Cards, and Joan Wiebe of Winnipeg. And to special friend and confidant Margaret Morien of Winnipeg. Special mention also goes to Mr. John Harding of England who would frequently call and in his British accent say, Hello Luv, how's your mum? Shirley will also be sadly missed by her faithful companion, Cody, who by the way, if you were ever missing a sock, he knew where to find it. Shirley was born and raised in Ottawa, having worked for the Federal Government. She then met and married Leslie Poole who was at the time employed by the Royal Canadian Armed Forces Pay Corp. They married in 1955, and had three children, Heather, Steven and Susan, all born in Ottawa. Shirley and Les then moved their family to Winnipeg in 1969 when Les was transferred with the Army. They settled in Winnipeg and have made it their home ever since. Shirley's life centered around her home and her family, where she doted on her two grandchildren, Claire and Neil. Shirley loved to shop, mostly for her grandkids, and it wasn't unusual to find both Heather and Shirley across the line power shopping in Target in Grand Forks. A memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. with reception to follow. Interment will be the next day with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the charity of their choice in Shirley's name. We walked with you up to the Gates of Heaven, and saw Dad and Susan waiting for you on the other side. It was hard for us to let you go, but we know that you are no longer in pain anymore, and are now safe in the loving arms of the Lord. God Bless you Mom, you will live on in our hearts forever.
