MARTHA THOMAS (nee WEISS) April 3, 1914 - July 8, 2006 On Saturday, July 8th, 2006 our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Martha Thomas (nee Weiss) passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital. Martha will be sadly missed by her son Lionel and her grandsons and their families, Rick (Roxanne), Greg (Marie), Glen (Sharon) and Wayne (Dianne); nine great-grandchildren, Richard, Sean, Timothy, Ben, Neesa, Julie, Trevor, Jamie and Sarah. Mom is also survived by her sister Alma and her family. Martha was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Melford; also her parents, seven of her siblings and her daughter-in-law Joan. Mom was the eldest of nine children and grew up in the farming community of Grahamdale MB, where she worked on the farm with her parents and helped raise her many brothers and sisters. Mom met and married Dad (Melford Thomas) in 1932. They lived in Winnipeg where Mel worked for the Singer Sewing Company and they raised Lionel. Lionel was the light of Martha's eye, and his four sons would soon become a part of that light. As Lionel and Joan raised their sons, Grandma was always there to help, either in the child care of the boys, keeping Joan company or making Lionel lunch at his shop. Family was the focus of Martha's life and she has passed her caring and giving nature on to her family. Over the last couple of years mom's health has kept her pretty close to home but that didn't stop her from always wanting to know how everyone was doing and they were well, she loved them all to pieces. We would like to thank Dr. Peter Kuegle and the nurses at the Concordia Hospital 3rd floor nursing station for room 330, your kindness and compassion are greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street, Thursday evening, July 13, at 7:00 p.m., Rev. Mary Lysecki officiating. A private family internment will take place at a later date.
