ROBERT KURT BEHRENDT (BUMPY) January 13, 1936 July 15, 2006 It is with broken hearts and extreme sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather after a courageous one year battle with pancreatic cancer. He succumbed to his illness at the Riverview Health Centre in an environment of dignity and compassion. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years Laurie, his children Rory (Kathy), Lisa (Doug), and his chosen daughter Holly (Len). His love and kindness will forever be remembered by all his wonderful grandchildren, Mark (Candi), Kassie, and his chosen grandchildren Nina (Walter), and Darryl. He will also be greatly missed by many family and friends in Winnipeg, Montreal, and Florida. He was predeceased by his parents Kurt and Mary and his older sister Elsie. Bob was very proud of being born, raised, and educated in Winnipeg's North End. He joined Trans Canada Airlines in his youth, retiring from Air Canada in Montreal with over 38 years of service. His example of dedication and strong work ethic has provided a shining example to his children and grandchildren. First and foremost Bob was a family man. Nothing made him happier than to see his children and grandchildren grow and mature, for he considered them to be his most precious gifts. Bob was also an avid sports fan, especially of hockey, football, baseball and bowling. Initially playing them in his youth and in later life by enjoying these and other sports as a spectator. His true passion was golf, initially at Transcona golf club, then at Como golf course in Hudson Quebec, and lastly at Morris golf course. He shared his love of the game with many friends at all three clubs but more importantly by teaching Rory, Mark and Kassie the love of the game. His love of golf as well as the principals by which he lived his life are part of the legacy that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. He faced his illness in a serene and dignified manner that left his family with an example of courage and lasting positive memories of him. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Lipschitz, his surgical team and the staff of 3H at Health Sciences Centre, as well as the entire staff of 3 East at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate and sympathetic care. In the whisper of the breeze and the swish of a golf club Those you loved and who loved you will remember In lieu of flowers Bob's family would greatly appreciate that donations be made in his name to: Cancer Care Manitoba 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB.
