NELLIE TIO Peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 Nellie passed away at the Selkirk Hospital. Nellie is survived by her husband Henry; son David (Jane); daughter Debbie (Ron); grandchildren, Gregory (Bonnie), Glenn (Sheila), Matthew (Renuka), Callum, Holly (Darcy), Amber (Jarred), and seven great-grandchildren. Nellie is also survived by her sisters, Kay, Stella (Mike), Phyllis, and brother Alec (Pearl). Nellie was born in Matlock on December 5, 1918. She was raised in Netley and lived there until moving to Lower Fort Garry in 1970. Nellie and Henry farmed in Netley and this is where Nellie's love of gardening and animals flourished. She was hard working and through the trying times she cared for her family and animals with pride. Nellie was an excellent cook. She would never let you leave the house hungry. She was known for her marvelous ukrainian dishes, perogies and cabbage rolls. Not only did they taste great, but they looked great too. Nellie was a creative baker which led to her career with Lower Fort Garry, first as their guide and later as the stone oven baker, where she was renown for her bread and bannock. Nellie's years at Lower Fort Garry was one of the highlights of her life. She enjoyed her work and the many people she met there and worked with. Her sense of humour carried her through the good times and bad, and this she passed it on to her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years, Nellie and Henry enjoyed fishing, at one point catching a Walleye that earned her a Master Angler Award. Her retirement also provided time for crocheting and paper tole, and of course more gardening. She lived for her garden. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave with viewing one half hour prior to the service. Interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at the Selkirk General Hospital. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME 885-9715
