JEAN NERON Peacefully, after battling cancer for almost four years, Jean passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on January 16, 2007. He will be missed by his wife Pearl, and his two sons, Jean Jr. and Marcel. Jean was born in Levis, Quebec in 1930, and as a young man headed west. He worked his way across Ontario as a fruit picker, pool shark and whatever odd jobs he could get. He eventually arrived in Winnipeg, and it was at Winnipeg Beach in 1955 he met his future wife, Pearl. They were married in 1956, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Jean worked as a mix room operator at Ray-o-Vac for 28 years, until they closed the plant in 1985. During that time he won awards for his dedication to his work. Following that, he worked at Boeing without missing a single day until his retirement. Fishing was his great passion. He went on many fly-in fishing trips with the gang from Ray-o-Vac, and in later years, spent time at Tall Timber Lodge on Lac Du Bonnet. He was especially proud of the Manitoba Master Angler award he earned fishing there. When he wasn't fishing, he enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden, which often provided the family with more tomatoes than even Pearl could eat. We would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, including Dr. Nason and Dr. Lyluk, for all their efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 694 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23 at the Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street.
