SOPHIE POWZUN (KUZYK) (EHINGER)
Born: Dec 01, 1921
Date of Passing: Dec 29, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE POWZUN (KUZYK) (nee EHINGER) December 1, 1921 December 29, 2006 With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Baba Sophie, aged 85 years at the Riverview Health Centre. Sophie was born in Beausejour, MB. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Frank Ehinger and her eight brothers, Fred, Zigmund, Arthur, Robert, Albert, Cashmier, Frank and Edward. It grieved her particularly hard that all of her family passed away before her and that she should be left. Sophie was also predeceased by her first husband Andrew Kuzyk who she met and married at the tender age of 18. She and Andrew lived and worked in many places in Manitoba and Northwest Ontario before returning to Winnipeg to settle. In Winnipeg, Sophie worked at Western Glove Works, Sterling Stall and Winnipeg Cold Storage. She enjoyed the friendships she made while working and had a treasure trove of swapped recipes from her lady friends . Andrew was injured while working on the Alaska Highway and eventually died from his injuries. After almost 20 years of marriage, Sophie was left alone. In good time she began a new life when she married John Powzun in 1960. This new life included a whole new family; her stepson Richard and daughter Helen born in 1962. John and Sophie celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary before John passed away in 1986. Sophie was a kind, honest, giving woman who lived a simple life and worked hard for most of it. She enjoyed being independent and managed to live on her own, eventually with the help of her devoted daughter Helen and her granddaughter, Hannah. Although Sophie fought very hard to make a successful return home, it was not meant to be. With mixed emotions we make our goodbyes; sadness because she will be missed by so many who love her and joy because she is now reunited with so many of those friends and family which she loved so much. Sophie is survived by daughter Helen, son-in-law Matthew (Barney) Barnbrook, stepson Richard Powzun and daughter-in-law Nancy. Prayers will be said on Monday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Chapel with Rev. Fr. A. Harkavyi as officiant. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Ryan, Brad Ehinger, John Ehinger, Jim Kuslak, John Jasnikowski and Brendon Ehinger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sophie's memory to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
