Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN THOMAS It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay) Doreen Thomas on January 19, 2007 at the age of 86. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Cecil; her parents, Sidney and Florence Culliford; daughter-in-law Nina and granddaughter Annette. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her son Keith (Marion nee Lotocki); grandson Darren (Shannon nee Burns). Also missing Granny Kay are Jim and Patti Ringer and children, Stephanie, Zachary and Benjamin. Kay was born on June 9, 1920 in Bath, England. She completed her education and began a career in hairdressing. When the war started in 1939, she joined the RAF and served her country. It was during this time she met and married Cecil, who served in the army. In 1944, upon the birth of her son, she left the airforce. After the war ended Kay, Cecil and Keith moved to St. John's, NFLD. As a British war bride, she quickly became a proud Newfoundlander. In St. John's, Kay was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Church, where she volunteered her time with the Women's Auxiliary. She actively participated in many events in her church community. Kay and Cecil returned to England for several years upon his retirement, then moving to Winnipeg in 1978 to be closer to their family. It was then they became actively involved with St. Peter's Anglican Church and were faithful parishioners. Kay had a love for reading, hockey and a passion for family gatherings, birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas etc., all were special to her and she looked forward to each and every event. She took a huge interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were always foremost in her thoughts and prayers. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Grace Hospital, in particular ICU staff, Doctors Lee, Eastman and Joshua, as well as Nurses Cindy, John and Dawn for their compassion and kindness shown to Kay. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church, located at 755 Elm St. (Grant and Elm).
