JOHANN HERZOG After a courageous battle with cancer, on February 22, 2007, Johann Herzog went to be with his Lord and Savior. Johann was born on June 11, 1925 in Siberia. He married Leontine Hafner on June 17, 1950 in the former East Germany. In January of 1954, he and his wife, along with daughter, Hannelore, immigrated to Canada. Johann was a versatile person and a hard worker. Although he had been a farmer in Germany, after coming to Canada, he worked as a painter and carpenter for many years and for over 25 years as a power engineer at Canadian Linen Supply. He retired at the age of 67. An avid gardener, he pursued that hobby as long as his health allowed. Being a man of strong faith, he shared his faith not only in words but with the help he gladly gave to his family and many others. He always found it much easier to give than to receive. Johann had many favorite Bible verses, one of them being: As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; Psalm103:13 Johann is lovingly remembered by his wife Leontine; children Hannelore (Dietmar Potschka), Wilf (Isolde), Steven (Trina); grandchildren Sherry and Kristy Potschka, Lauren Bakun, and his namesake Johann Herzog; sisters, Elisabeth Hagele and Linda Turpisch; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Dieter, in infancy, as well as two brothers and two sisters. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday, February 27, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., also at Klassen Funeral Home. If friends so wish, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
