Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR MAE (DUTTON) PRETTY Eleanor was born in Winnipeg on May 1, 1910, and passed away peacefully at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital in Vancouver on March 5, 2007. Beloved mother of Roger, Marilyn (Brulhart), and Robert; cherished Nana of David (Gwyr), Galya (Goede), Matthew and Graham; loving Mum to her children's spouses, Lucie Waltner, Will Goede and Mary Jane Arthur. Predeceased by the love of her life, husband Jonathan Malcolm (Michael) Pretty, sister Charlotte B. Halls, and brothers, Everell, Bill and Spencer. Eleanor received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba in 1931, and was a practicing dietician until 1938. She then devoted herself to her family. The quintessential stay-at-home Mum, she was always there for us. She rarely had a cross word and was supportive of all our endeavours. We know she is very proud of us; she let us know this in ways big and small. She was our rock, the epitome of a Mum. Eleanor was unfailingly calm, gracious, modest, kind and giving. Outside our home, volunteer work was important, with the Junior League of Toronto, the Edmonton Symphony Society, the L.I.F.E. group of Vancouver, and the Tuck Shop at Cavell Gardens. Throughout her life she was regarded by so many as the truest of friends, a joy to be with, a lady fit to take tea with the Queen (and she did! - in Edmonton, 1959). She always thought of others, always wanted to help. We are so grateful to have had her vibrant presence, her energetic body, and her sharp mind to brighten our lives all through her almost 97 years. Again, thinking of others, Eleanor was most concerned about global warming. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in honour of her memory to the David Suzuki Foundation. A memorial service in celebration of Eleanor's life will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard Street in Vancouver.
