CHARLES (OJARS) RADOVSKIS On March 30, 2007, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Charles Ojars Radovskis passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 77 years. Ojars is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edite, daughter Zinta and husband Paul Akkerman and grandsons, Nikolas and Evan. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Dzidra, Ritma and Aina (Arnis), brother-in-law Olgerts, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family in the U.S.A., Canada and Latvia. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and his son Edvins. Ojars was born on April 18, 1929, in Klikoli, Lithuania. He was the youngest of six children of Karlis and Marija Radovskis. Although he was born in Lithuania, Ojars was of Latvian decent. At the young age of 15, Ojars was forced to leave his homeland due to the outbreak of war. After living in Germany for a few years, he immigrated to Canada in 1949. After working numerous jobs, Ojars began his lifelong career in 1952 with Winnipeg Hydro. He hired on as an electrician's helper, eventually apprenticing to become a journeyman electrician. After 36 years of service, Charlie retired from his position as electrical foreman in 1988. Ojars and his wife Edite worked hard to keep the Latvian culture alive in Winnipeg, In the 1970s, he spent many long but joyous hours at the Riga, Latvia pavilion during Folklorama, an annual Winnipeg event. Up until his demise, he was also active in the Winnipeg Latvian Society as well as the Holy Cross Latvian Lutheran Church. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department., 5B Medical Wing, and all others who cared for Ojars during his brief stay. Thank you for helping us through a most difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007, at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Indra Grislis officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
