JUNE BECKEL (nee LOWER) June 4, 1925 - March 27, 2007 With her daughters by her side June passed away at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre at the age of 81. She is survived by her sister Arlene Buhler of Surrey, BC, her son Jim of Edmonton (Frances), Rob and Christine, her son Bill of St. Louis, MO (Iryna), David and Michael, daughter Marilyn Hayden, daughter Brenda (Brian Heintz), Mitchell and Kelley, and son Rob of Calgary (Eleanor), April and Randy and two great-grandchildren, Daytn and Aliya. June was born into a family of musicians in 1925. She lived with her extended family (grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles), all of whom played multiple instruments and taught lessons, and as a consequence she loved all types of music from classical to country. Her grandfather played with the symphony and they used to practice at their home frequently. June and Ross wed in September 1946 and were married for 57 years before the death of Ross in February 2004. June worked in the lingerie department at Eaton's until the birth of their first child when she became a full time homemaker. She loved her children dearly and she and Ross attended every sporting event and band concert until the kids were married and away from home. Even then they continued to go whenever they knew about the games. Summers were spent at Brereton Lake at the cabin of sister-in-law Joyce and brother-in-law Al Hobson, with their two families and their beloved dog Shrimp. The cabin was a source of great fun and enjoyment for many, many years. June was an avid reader, particularly of mysteries. She had great interest in other people and was extremely fond of everyone. She loved to bake and sent her baking with her kids to every function they had. It got to be that their friends and colleagues would request their favourites when there was going to be a get together. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Kildonan Personal Care Centre, and the Golden Door where she spent the first six years of nursing home living. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2G 1P4, 338-0331. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers should friends so desire, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Thank you Mom for all the wonderful memories you have given us. We love you. You were a real lady.
