Date of Passing: Apr 23, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGRACE PRITCHARD (nee CHAMBERLAIN) 1918 - 2007 Grace passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 23, 2007 at the Selkirk General Hospital following a brief illness. She is survived by her twin Marjorie Chamberlain of Selkirk; sisters, Lucy Van Mol of Pilot Mound and Mabelle Gawne of Surrey, BC, along with sisters-in-law, Isabelle Chamberlain and Grace Chamberlain of Selkirk. She also leaves behind brothers, Arthur (Louise), John (Dorothy) of Selkirk and Don of California. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 2001 as well as three brothers, William, Robert and Edmund, along with her parents, Edward and Annie Chamberlain and sisters-in-law, Agnes and Eleanor Chamberlain. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Grace was born into a pioneering farm family in Rossdale, MB and was educated in the community. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and was stationed in Ottawa from 1942 to 1945. Grace returned home after hostilities ended and worked for many years as a bookkeeper with the Selkirk General Hospital and Gibb's Drug Store. She married Clarence in 1952, settling on a mixed farm in Meadowdale, where their lives revolved around hard work, community activities and a large, close-knit extended family. Holidays, birthdays and special occasions were characterized by large gatherings at the homestead and were not complete without a feast lovingly prepared by the twins. Grace and Clarence sold their farm and moved to Selkirk. Marjorie joined Grace after Clarence took up residence in Red River Place and the two lived independently until very recently, when ill health necessitated a move to the Betel Home in Selkirk. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Selkirk General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. A memorial service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home of Selkirk on Friday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Sharman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's on the Red Anglican Church, 3 St. Andrew's Rd., St. Andrew's, MB R1A 2Y4. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
