ARTHUR EDWARD PORTER Arthur Edward Porter passed away peacefully at home, in Port Alberni, with his wife Manda by his side on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 79 years of age. Bud, as he was known, was born in Chicago on August 6, 1927. His parents moved to Morris, MB where he spent his school years. In the Second World War, his father enlisted in the RCAF and was killed in an airplane accident. This lead to some difficult years for the family during his teenage years. He then spent a few years as an electrician before joining the RCMP. He married Norma Gallia in 1955 and had two children, Anthony and Aurelia. After leaving the RCMP he was involved in security work for BC Hydro as well as various business enterprises. Through his many years living in North Vancouver, he was very actively involved in many community activities. He was awarded his 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge. Spent many years as a very active shriner and was actively involved in the Children's Hospital. His involvement in the North Shore Music Organization resulted in many noted musicians being brought to the community. The role he played in C.E.S.O. resulted in a number of overseas assignments in third world countries. Bud was predeceased by Norma, his wife of 42 years. He later married (2000) and is survived by his wife Manda. Also surviving him are his children, Aurelia and Anthony (Janice); grandchildren: Andrew (Janet), Galia and Danny; great-grandson Spencer; sisters, Joan (Harold) Penner, Mary Juras, Hazel (Al) Buchanan and Alice (Jim) Hastings and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and Manda's family from Croatia. Prayers will be offered at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007 from the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005-6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 4731 Burke Road, with Father Marek Paczka officiating.
