NELLIE PURA It is with profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Nellie Pura in the early hours of June 3, 2007, at the family cottage in North West Ontario. She will be lovingly remembered by Peter, her husband of 53 years; her children, Cathy McElhoes (Randy), Mary-Ann Fast (Tim), Mike Pura (Heather), Peter Pura (Lina) and sisters-in-law, Marie Danyluk and Sister Gerarda Pura. She will also be sadly missed by her cherished grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, and Brendan McElhoes, Heather and Paula Fast, Nicolas and Luke Pura, and Bianca Pura. Nellie was predeceased by her much loved mother Mary Missa; her in-laws, William and Frances Pura, and her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Andrew and Margaret Pura. Nellie was born in Winnipeg, graduated from St. John's High School and was a devoted stay at home mom before she started a 20-year career at Veterans Affairs. Life did not deal Mom an easy button to press when times were tough, and her resolve to overcome adversity combined with constant words of encouragement for her children and grandchildren will never be forgotten. Family always came first, second and third. Absolutely nothing took precedence over her children's happiness. Nellie took great pride and joy in attending the many sporting and music events of her children and in later years, her grandchildren. Mom always loved a party and was famous for organizing family events. Her skill in making a feast out of nothing will be greatly missed along with her homemade holubsti, perogies and borscht. Her generosity with time and money knew no bounds. Mysteriously, the restaurant bill somehow always ended up on her lap. She was incessantly sociable and a gifted conversationalist, making others feel listened to and comfortable, even if they were strangers. She was highly regarded as a great friend to those who knew her. Nellie was an avid reader and enjoyed spending long hours reading in the gazebo at the lake with the sound of her grandchildren playing and laughing in the background. Nothing made her happier. Her absence will be felt on family walks and blueberry picking excursions. We will miss her smiling face always awaiting us on our return from fishing trips. The cottage and special family dinners will never be the same. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to the paramedics, first responders, doctors and staff at Lake of the Woods General Hospital for their compassion and care. A Funeral Mass is being held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2007. Viewing will be from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Her treasured grandchildren are honoured to be their grandmother's pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Benedict's Foundation, 225 Masters Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R4A 2A1 Our family is a circle of love and strength. With every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger. ....Until we meet again Mom. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
