DARLENE PATRICIA PRYHITKO After a courageous battle, it is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Darlene Pryhitko at the Health Sciences Centre on July 26, 2007 at the age of 55 years. Darlene was the beloved wife of Rob Brown, cherished sister of Sonia (Albert) Pryslak and Adeline (Wilf) Armstrong. Darlene was the cherished daughter-in-law and sister-in-law of Jamie (Jean McCloy) Brown, Bev (Grant Luke) Afifi, and Allyson (Larry) Smart. Darlene will be lovingly remembered by her special nieces and nephews, Eugene (Christine Perrick), Audrey (Terry Poole), Meaghen (Sean) Ennis, Marla-Rae (David) Phillips, Jamie (Sarah) Afifi, Tarek (Tracie) Afifi, Suzy Afifi, Amber Smart, Melissa Smart, Carissa Ball and Justin Poole. Darlene was loved by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Pauline Pryhitko and cherished pet Cona. Darlene was born on September 11, 1951 in Canora, Saskatchewan. Darlene spent her early years on the farm north of Pelly. She attended school in both Maybridge and Pelly. She moved to Winnipeg around 1978 where she worked as caretaker of an apartment block. She then found her true calling as a home care worker. She graduated from the Home Care Attendant course at Red River College and went on to work in Home Care for 17 years. Due to a stroke in 1998, she was unable to continue in the career she loved. Darlene began to receive home care in her home where she showed tremendous courage, strength and inspiration to her caregivers, she was well liked and highly commended by all of her co-workers and clients alike. Darlene was especially fond of family get togethers and took great pride in treating her nieces and nephews. She loved to cook and bake, watch the Food Network and especially adored her favorite soap opera Young and the Restless . She took great pride in decorating her home, particularly, for holidays and special occasions. The family wish to extend their special thanks to Darlene's Health and Home Care providers, St. Boniface Hospital Staff, Dr's McDougall and Verilli, ACF Medicine/Hemo Dialysis unit, the staff at Deer Lodge, Middlechurch Adult Day Program; especially Maria and Angela and most recently, the HSC Renal Transplant Unit, Dr's Rush, Nickerson, Karpinsky, and Storsley, nurses Cheryl, Drinda, Mary Beth, the staff on GD-3, E.T. nurse Elaine Beyer, Physios Denny and Oliver, and the numerous others that assisted with Darlene's care.. Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 7:30 pm and a Memorial Service on Monday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m., at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends and family desire, memorial donations may be made in Darlene's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St. Suite 200, R3L 0K6, the Kidney Foundation, 730 Taylor Ave., R3M 2K8 or Crohn's Colitis Foundation, Box 26008 RPO Maryland, 676 Portage Ave., R3G 3R3 all in Winnipeg, or to a charity of one's choice.
