STEVE OGRODNICK Peacefully on October 9, 2007, at the age of 81, Steve passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his brother Lawrence (Joan) of Maple Ridge, BC; sisters, Emily Park of Winnipeg; Freida Bloomberg of Toronto and many nieces and nephews. Steve was born and raised in The Pas. After serving in the Armed Forces, he began his many adventures on the West Coast. From his first employment at fish canneries in Steveston and New Westminster, to one of the first crews on the enormous Kitimat/Kemano Dam Project, he searched out fascinating and exciting employment. Eventually his travels landed him surveying in the Yukon; a time in which he thoroughly enjoyed and where he had his fondest memories. He returned to Manitoba in 1957, where he found employment with the launch of the nickel mine in Thompson. After enjoying a 20 year career with INCO, and a few stints on hydro dam projects in Northern Manitoba, he settled back in The Pas, where he operated a Taxi Cab up to his retirement. A friend to all, Yukon' Steve, could not go anywhere on earth without meeting a familiar face. An avid traveler, he never went anywhere without his camera. Known to stop traffic for a picture, his photos were simply awesome. We will all miss his thundering voice, his boisterous laugh. He was one of those unique individuals who livened up the room upon entering. If you were fortunate enough to cross his path, you were blessed by his friendship and his enormous generosity. Above all, he understood that life is a brief gift and that it should be enjoyed to its fullest. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Steve's life will be held in The Pas, Manitoba, on Wednesday, October 17. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Steve's memory, to a charity of one's choice. Rest in peace, Stevie boy, we will miss you.
