STELLA PROKOPOWICH (nee HOLOMAY) Peacefully with her family at her side, Stella passed away on December 29, 2007, no more pain, only peace. Stella leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband Mel of 55 years; sons, Richard and Ronald (Bonnie); grandsons, Ryan and Darren, granddaughter-in-law Shawna; great-granddaughter Hayley; sisters, Mary Posyniak of Manitoba and Nellie (Earl) Korzenowski of Cicamus, BC; brothers, Nick Holomay of Vancouver and Tony (Mary) Holomay and Peter Holomay of Bowsman, MB; sisters-in-law Jean Wasyl of Detroit, Michigan, USA, Teenie Prokopowich of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her mother in 1988; father in 1983; sister Tillie Oulette (Bert) of Winnipeg; brother Edward of Vancouver. Stella was born on January 28, 1931 in the town of Swan River, MB. She lived on the family farm in the district of Bowsman, MB from 1931 to 1948. The family moved to the town of Grandview, MB in 1948 that is where Stella met her husband to be, Melvin. Stella received her education in Bowsman. She decided to further her education and enrolled herself in Teacher School, where she received training in the teaching profession. After completion of her studies , she was hired by the Manitoba School Board and taught school for a year at a country school, and also in Dauphin, MB where she completed business bookkeeping at Littles College. She always excelled at whatever she did. Stella and Mel decided they should go to Toronto, ON to seek employment. They were married in Toronto August 2, 1952. Stella worked in her profession for Commercial Credit Corp. for a number of years. In 1956 Stella and Mel decided to buy some tourist property at Thunder Bay, ON. They operated the business for a period of time after which they sold the property and moved to Winnipeg. Family was very important to Stella as were her friends and great neighbours. She was a kind and gentle person who treated everyone with dignity and respect. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend great gratitude to the nursing and support staff at Seven Oaks Hospital on 3U4 and 3U7 for their excellent care provided for Stella. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3 at 1:00 p.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Kevin J. Smith as Celebrant. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jim Prokopowich, Al Prokopowich, Steve Krall, Mike Posyniak, Ryan Prokopowich and Edward Drebit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherwood Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 9Z9 CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
