JAMES RATCLIFFE 1922 - 2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of James Ratcliffe on January 3, 2008. Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Margaret; their children, Colleen (Bob) of San Jose, California, Jim (Fran) of Pontypool, Ontario and Barbara (Al) of Reston, Manitoba; their 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Irene Honer; brother-in-law Les Wade; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Annie Ratcliffe; his sister and her husband Edith and Bob Saunders; brother-in-law John Honer. Jim was born in Winnipeg May 26, 1922 and grew up in the Elmwood area. He worked for Canada Packers and Burns until enlistment in the Air Force in 1942 and was discharged as a Flying Officer in 1945. On his return to Winnipeg, he worked for North Star Oil, which later became Shell Oil, until his retirement in 1977. Jim enjoyed building trailers, camping, golfing, card playing, travelling, but he especially enjoyed wood working. His woodworking has travelled as far away as Japan. In 1991 Jim suffered his first heart attack and since then endured many heart attacks, strokes and bouts of pneumonia. Jim succumbed to pneumonia on Thursday, January 3, 2008. Special thanks are extended to the staff and volunteers at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe and Brazier with Br. Jorge Villegas, O.F.M. Cap. as Celebrant. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Activity Department of Donwood Manor or to St. Alphonsus Parish. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
