Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMETRO THOMAS POKOTYLO Metro Thomas (Tom) Pokotylo, family man, salesman, manager, mechanic, teacher, and amateur radio aficionado, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2008, aged 80. He is survived by his loving wife Anastasia (Nell) Pokotylo, to whom he was married 57 years, his son David Pokotylo, and his daughter Linda (Dara) Pokotylo. Tom also leaves behind his two grandchildren Heather and Jonathan Pokotylo and his siblings Marie (Pokotylo) Halldorson, Walter Pokotylo, Elizabeth (Pokotylo) Maldonado, and August Pokotylo. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, friends and cousins loved and will miss him. Tom started his career in the automotive business as a journeyman mechanic, and retired as a Business Management Manager for the Prairie Region with Chrysler Corporation. After retiring, Tom filled his time with his many, and varied, interests. He kept very active pursuing his amateur radio hobby, which brought him much joy, volunteering for the Western Canadian Aviation Museum, and participating in various activities through the Reh-fit Centre. Tom was a man much loved by family and friends alike. A lover of music, Tom was a talented musician himself who could pick up any instrument and play it. He also had a gift for mastering almost anything mechanical, and was always happy to help others with their problems, be they electrical, mechanical, or personal. Fascinated by machines, he embraced the new computer technology well into his final years, emailing family members and avidly using his digital camera, particularly during the walks he enjoyed taking with his wife Nell. 2007 was a particularly special year for Tom, with both him and Nell turning 80. Tom was so happy to reach 80 and share the celebration with his wife and children. Even at 80, Tom still maintained his great sense of humour and enjoyment of life, always learning new things and taking delight in the adventures of his children and grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of pride and happiness for him. There will be a small service for family and friends at Grace Hospital Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
