JOHN NICK POKLITAR April 28, 1928 to January 22, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Poklitar. Nick is survived by his beloved wife Eva, sister Elsie, children Bob (Shelley), Carol (Jim), Ken (Danita) and Ron (Lisa), and grandchildren Jason, Amanda, Ryan, Kelly, Nikolas, Eric, Jennifer, Neeka, Brandon and Leah. Nick was born on April 14, 1928 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg in 1937 where he has resided since. Nick married Eva in 1954 and raised their family in their home in Transcona. Nick loved nature, taking in trips to the mountains with his family and going on long walks with Eva. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, and spending time with his family. He was employed for many years at CN as a locomotive engineer retiring in 1984. Nick was very active in his retirement and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Europe, and the Blue Ridge Mountains with Eva. Before Nick got sick you could find them in downtown Transcona for breakfast or cruising Winnipeg Transit down to Kildonan Place or Club Regent. He had a good sense of humour, a great laugh, and enjoyed conversations with family and friends. The family would like to thank the ALS Society and Home Care for all their help. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3J 0L3.
