NETTIE NIKKEL Peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 Nettie Nikkel, at the age of 102 years passed on at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB with her niece and nephew Phyllis and Vern, and two wonderful friends Mary and Martha by her side, Nettie went to meet her Lord and Saviour. She was predeceased by her father Henry Nikkel, her mother Margaretha (Friesen) Nikkel, three brothers and nine sisters. Nettie was the last founding member of the Bethel Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. She deeply touched the lives of her family and friends with whom she associated during her years as a seamstress, working side-by-side with her devoted sister and best friend Eva. When we think of Nettie many wonderful memories come to mind, in particular the open houses she and Aunt Eva hosted over the years in their Fort Rouge home for all the family to enjoy their marvelous food...and oh so delicious home-made dill pickles. As well, their involvement in the Mennonite community and church, and their never ending generosity, always willing to help others, comes to mind. Nettie was born December 31, 1905. She is survived by friends and many nieces and nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her. She is finally home with her friends and family. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Bethel Mennonite Church at the corner of Stafford and Carter in Winnipeg. Viewing one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Mennonite Fellowship Hall following the celebration of her long and happy life. Interment will take place in the family plot in Altona, MB. We are grateful to the staff at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for their care and compassion. We are especially grateful to Aunt Nettie's good friends Peter and Mary Neufeld, Rose and Charlie Friesen, and her newest friends, Mary Plew and Martha Sierks for their many, many visits to Aunt Nettie during her stay at Donwood. Bless you!
