MARGARET (PEGGY) JOAN THOMSON (nee NEILSON) It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Margaret Thomson. Peacefully following a short illness, Margaret (Peggy) passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 68 years. Remaining to cherish Peggy's memory are her loving husband of almost 47 years of marriage, Gary; children, Steven (Lori), Susan (Kent Ward), and James (Lisa); grandchildren, Kristen, Tara, Kala, Ryan, Emily and Jenna; plus a new granddaughter only days away from birth; sisters, Marion, Onny (Ron Serbin); sister-in-law Bonnie Dee (Peter Hayward); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Margaret graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1961 and spent her career as a registered nurse. Following her marriage to Gary in 1961 she practiced nursing in Edmonton, St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota (as an Instructor and Supervisor). Following this Margaret became Head Nurse at the newly opened Dakota Hospital in Fargo where she set up the nursing procedures for the hospital. Upon returning to Canada she nursed in Regina, and after moving to Winnipeg, the Winnipeg General Hospital. After holding several positions in the hospital Margaret was asked to join the Infectious Diseases Department as a Nurse Clinician. She worked in ID for the majority of her career and she loved every minute of it. Besides her career Margaret was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family and the time spent with them. Vacations were a very special time when everyone was together. Later, she loved the time we had at our cottage on the lake. Her animals were also a very special part of her family. In compliance with Margaret's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will be held at a later date in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Dr. H. Frame of the Assiniboine Clinic for her help and support through Mom's illness. As well, special thanks to the nurses and staff with the Palliative Care Unit at the Riverview Health Centre, (3 East), who provided loving care and support for both Margaret and our family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy's memory to the Riverview Palliative Care Unit (3 East), or your local pet shelter. You are forever in our hearts Mom; We love you.
