IRENE BRIAND Irene Briand entered into eternal life on Sunday, February 3, 2008, after more than 94 years of devotion to her family and fidelity to her Creator. Alice Irene Briand (née Loiselle) was born on May 30, 1913, to Josephat and Angelina Loiselle in Napinka, Manitoba. While she was still a baby, her family moved to Vulcan, Alberta, where they lived until 1930. They then moved to the Peace River Country. She then left home to work in Edmonton and Chauvin, Alberta, before moving to Peace River, where she met Peter Briand. Irene and Peter were married on February 8, 1945, and moved to the family farm near Vanguard, Saskatchewan. They moved into Vanguard in 1950, where they lived and raised their sons, Clarence, Bob and Richard. In 1966, they sold the farm and moved to Regina for Bob and Richard's education. While they lived in Regina, Irene worked at the Sherwood Co-op until she and Peter retired to White Rock, British Columbia, in 1979. Irene lived in White Rock until 2003, when she moved to Winnipeg to be nearer to family. She lived there until her passing. Irene loved to dance and to travel. She danced three times a week until she was 87 years of age. She loved music, especially Montovani. Her gypsy feet took her all over North America with Peter as well as a trip to Hawaii and two trips to Europe. They loved camping. She also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Thailand. Irene was predeceased by her parents, by her husband, Peter and her sons, Lawrence and Bob and daughter-in-law, Joan Briand. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Lawrence, Richard, Florence, Annette, Leo, Clarence and Norman, and close friend, Frank. She is survived by her sons, Clarence (Audrey) and Richard (Polly) and daughter-in-law, Sandy, one grandson (Lorin) and three granddaughters, Tammy, Michelle (Chris) and Hayley, as well as four great-grandsons, Dustin, Dillon and Devon and Jean-Michel and one great-granddaughter Adriene. She is also survived by her sisters, Isabel and Lena (Terry), and her brother Gerry. The Vigil of Prayer has taken place on Tuesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bardal Funeral Home, and the Mass of the Resurrection will be at Misericordia Place Chapel (44 Furby St.) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the management and staff of Misericordia Place for their untiring and excellent care offered Irene during her stay with them. Our special thanks to Sharon, for the many rosaries she prayed with Mom and to Nora, her special friend and companion. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society and Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace would be gratefully received.
