EILEEN MAUDE QUIBELL (nee McLEOD) Passed away peacefully at her home in Elliot Lake following a painless fight with cancer on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband Arnold Harold Quibell of Penticton, BC, her sons, Roderick Quibell (Joanne) of Nanaimo, BC, Robert Quibell of Elliot Lake, her daughters, Rae Letarte (Jean-Guy) of Elliot Lake, Norma Quibell of Calgary, Patricia Hertwig (Bernd), Shirley Butler (Roger), both of St. Catharines, Lynn Roberts (Barry) of Calgary and grandchildren, Jennifer Quibell, Kim Valencic (Hertwig), Pearl Hertwig, Jesse Hertwig, Marc and Alec Letarte, Tyler and Kayla Roberts, Daren Quibell and Frederick Butler. Also survived by brother and sister, Kenneth McLeod (Eileen) of Dugald, MB, Mary Sellen (Dick) of Oak Bank, MB and the late Roderick, Fraser, Alick and Glenn McLeod and Fern Braidwood. Eileen and husband Arnold raised their seven children as one of the pioneer families of Elliot Lake. Eileen and Arnold married on December 29, 1941 and spent several years in South Porcupine before settling in Elliot Lake in 1956. Eileen graduated at the age of 50 as an R.N.A. and worked at the St. Joseph's General Hospital in Elliot Lake before retiring at age 67. Her main hobby was gardening but she also enjoyed cross country skiing, playing piano and line and round dancing. A memorial wake will be held at the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel Cremation Centre (705-848-9250) on Saturday, February 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
