Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER RASMUSSEN Peacefully, in the early hours of April 10, 2008, Walter Rasmussen passed at Oakview Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born August 18, 1914, Walter is survived by two sons, Ron (Gwen) and David, and two daughters, Janice (Jim Shirtliffe) and Darlene Miller. He leaves ten grandchildren, Kathie, Dan, Sonja, Christine, Steve, Patti, Leanne, Jodi, Greg, and Adam, and 22 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Qually). Although Walter's last year was in care at Oakview, his happy and productive years where spent in Starbuck/Dacotah area where he farmed and raised his family. He was a successful and innovative farmer, but we will all remember him best for his love of family, his appreciation of nature, and his joy at watching his family grow. Dad was a man who never passed judgment and was liberal with his unconditional love. Dad proudly farmed the family' farm for many years, always paying tribute to his forefathers for their insight in choosing the Dacotah area to put down stakes. The Rasmussen farm became a century farm in 2003, and a celebration was attended by hundreds of family members, neighbors and friends. Acknowledgment was paid to the perseverance and hard work of both Jacob and Sofia Rasmussen. Dad has always been proud of his Norwegian heritage. We have been taught to respect the groundwork that was laid by the family members that have gone before us. The good old days for Dad included baseball, curling, traveling south with Mom and moving forward as farming evolved from teams of horses to high tech tractors and combines. Dad inspired many young farmers as he operated farm machinery and was active in farm decision making into his 90's. His children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, will carry on his spirit. His loving, kind and generous nature will never be forgotten. The family extends their gratitude to the second floor staff at Oakview for not only their care, but also for their appreciation of the man that Dad was. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Viewing one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethlehem Memorial Gardens or Trinity Lutheran Church. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
