HANNAH CROSS On April 18, 2008, following a lengthy illness, Hannah Cross ended her earthly life. Hannah was born on November 14, 1922 in Winnipeg, the only child of Margaret (Marcus) and John Rea. She grew up in Elmwood. Following graduation from high school, she took a secretarial course and went to work for Trans-Canada Airlines until her marriage to Ivor Cross in 1948. They enjoyed nearly 32 years together until his sudden death in 1980. Her life revolved around her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. In addition, she maintained close ties with her extended family. Of all the many wonderful trips she took, perhaps none was more special than her visit to Northern Ireland in 1985 where she met many of her relatives for the first time. Hannah lived almost 40 years on Dorchester Avenue and had deep roots in the community. Many of her neighbours became special friends. She was an active member of Harrow United Church. Her volunteer associations included the Winnipeg Music Festival and the Wednesday Morning Musicale. She enjoyed the Women's Canadian Club luncheons, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra concerts and the World Adventure Tours films. For a number of years, she volunteered for the Canadian Save the Children Fund. At home, she was an expert seamstress and a terrific baker! During the summers, she got great pleasure from the family cottage at Sandy Hook. The dementia that gradually but relentlessly overcame her began about 1989. We are very grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff of Tuxedo Villa for the past 12 years. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Greg Fearn), son Fred Cross (Jan Mildren) and granddaughters, Alison and Sandra Fearn. A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue, on Tuesday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends could make a donation to Harrow United Church or a charity of their choice.
