JEAN EDITH THOM (NORRIE) June 24, 1911 May 11, 2008 Mom passed away peacefully at the Russell and District Personal Care Home on Sunday, Mother's Day, with her son by her side. Mom was predeceased by her husband Don, her daughter Pat, her sister Lil, and brother Buster. Mom was born and raised on the James Norrie farm in the Louise Municipality north of Pilot Mound. She would have been so proud to be able to attend the 100th anniversary of their farm this summer. She married Donald Thom in August of 1938, and was fortunate to have celebrated their 50th anniversary in August of 1988 in Manitou with their friends and family. Because of Don's employment with the Dept. of Education, they moved to several towns in Manitoba Somerset, Morris, Sperling, Pilot Mound, Dominion City, and retired to Manitou. The most important part of her life was spending time with her family at home, and at all the Thom and Norrie reunions. She was an active member of all the communities in which they lived, but her special interests focused around the United Church's women's group and the Horticultural Society. Her hobbies were many, but gardening and playing cards were her favorite. The family would sincerely like to thank the entire staff at the Russell Personal Care Home who made this kind, cheerful, sweet lady so happy in the last three years of her life. You are truly a wonderful group of care givers. Remaining to forever cherish Mom's memory are her son, Ed (Val) and her granddaughters Pat, Carla (Mark), Krista (Les) and her great- grandchildren Larah, Brynn, Jordan, Thomas, Carson and Kendra. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Manitou United Church. A private family interment will take place at the Crystal City Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Manitou United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements by Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service of Russell, Manitoba. (204) 773-2747.
