Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARCEL ( TOM ) BLAIR May 11, 1920 May 17, 2008 Peacefully, on May 17, 2008, with his family by his side, our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Tom Blair, passed away at the Concordia Place. Tom leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his loving wife Dorothy; son Marcel (Gisele); grandsons, Joseph (Teresa), TJ; great-granddaughters, Teagan and Lillian. He is also survived by his brother Rene (Geordie), nephews and nieces, Don (Lorraine). Vicki (Dale), Wendy (Bill), Wayne (Vanessa), Lori (Gerry), Ann (Terry) Gartland, Tamar (Tommy) Pharoah and numerous nieces and nephews in the UK. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Louise and Henri Blair, brother Clement and nephew Mitch. Born in Falher, Alberta, Tom left home at an early age and eventually enlisted in the Sixth Canadian Field R.C.E. He served overseas, including the D Day invasion. While in England, he met the love of his life, Dorothy, and they were married in County Durham. After the war, the family settled in Edmonton, where Tom worked for the CNR at various line points in the maintenance of buildings and bridges. In 1962 the family moved to Winnipeg and Tom worked in the CNR shops in Transcona as a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1981. Tom had been active in many Legion activities, including the Poppy Fund, Wheelchair Committee and served in many executive positions, including President. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Legion. Tom enjoyed fishing and bowling and was well known around Transcona for his infamous long walks. We will always cherish the special times that great-granddaughter Teagan shared with Tom, I love you granddad. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Concordia Place, who cared for Tom in the last year of his life, you are a special group of caregivers. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel 1800 Day Street. Interment to follow in the Field of Honor, Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
