HELMUT JOHANN SIMON RAUSER 1946-2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, Helmut joined his Saviour June 1, 2008 at 3:00 a.m. at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 61. His wife Elma and four children were by his side. He is survived by Elma; his children Joel (Kristin), Karin (Darnell), Rebecca and Timothy (Sarah); his two grandchildren Meghann and Connor; his two sisters Erika (Ray) and Elvira (Burke); nieces and nephews; and a grandbaby on the way (Karin). He was predeceased by his brother Art, and his parents. Helmut was born in Abtswind, Bavaria June 23, 1946 to Johann and Erna Rauser, the youngest of four children. Immigrating to Canada in 1954, his family settled in Winnipeg. Helmut and Elma were married in 1970 and attended Winnipeg Bible College, earning Bachelors of Religious Studies and Divinity in two and a half years. Upon graduation, Helmut entered the Pastorate. Other occupations throughout his life included sales positions, Director for Child Evangelism Fellowship, and then recently the Post Master for Birds Hill. Helmut loved nature, in particular the mountains, as the beauty around him gave evidence to a creator. Helmut loved people, and foremost his Saviour, Jesus Christ. His one desire above all others was that his life was a reflection of Jesus, and that the lost came to an understanding of the gift of God's Son. Thank you to CancerCare Manitoba, Denise, Barb and Dr. Czaykowski, Riverview Health Centre and the staff on 3 East, and all his friends and family that supported Helmut during this time. Visitation will be held at Klassen Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, and Funeral Service at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. Donations will be accepted in lieu of flowers, to CancerCare Manitoba , and/or the Gideons.
