DAVID SIDNEY THOMAS Born 1924 in Winnipeg, died suddenly at home in Qualicum Beach on May 31, 2008. A R.C.N.V.R. Veteran of the Second World War, Dave is survived by Ruth, his loving wife of 63 years; four children: David (Brenda) of Australia, Jude (Stephen) of Errington, Ruth (Charlie) of Regina, Fred (Kendra) of Winnipeg; nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; Dave's siblings in Winnipeg: sisters Lillian, Ethel, Doris and brothers Bill and Ted. Dave and Ruth raised their family in Winnipeg, followed by a move to Victoria, then settling in Parksville and Qualicum. A real pleasure in Dave's life was teaching Naval Cadets in Winnipeg. Dave enjoyed his wood-carving and many years of singing with the Victoria Village Squires and the Nanaimo Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus. He and Ruth also enjoyed singing with two local singing groups.
