Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMANFORD OLAND PRICE Surrounded by family, Manford passed away at Concordia Hospital on July 17, 2008. Manford was born in Cornwall, ON May 18, 1922. As a child he moved to Valleyfield, QC and then to Beauharnois, QC. After completing school, he worked for 21 years at Howard Smith Paper Mills as Chief Storekeeper. His term was broken for enlistment in the R.C.A. F. where he obtained the rank of Sargeant. During the war, he spent 22 months in Gander, NL where he met Jean Richardson, a nurse at the hospital where he was a patient. They were wed on June 29, 1943 in Grand Falls, NL. In 1958, Manford and his family moved to Winnipeg where he worked for Griffin Steel for 21 years and later for Bearing Supply and General Scrap. Manford joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1946. He proudly served the Legion in many capacities. He was a Life Member and received the Meritorious Service Medal. He was an Honorary Member of the Transcona Legion Ladies Auxiliary. As well, he served the community through the Kinsman and K40 Clubs. He received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of his service. Manford was predeceased by his parents, Viola and Hilliard, his brother Calvin, his wife and best friend for 56 years, Jean, two sons Donald and Kenneth and grandson Phillip. He leaves to mourn his passing, son Lynn (Judy), daughters Shirley (Irvin), Judy (Chris), Dianne (Patrick), daughter-in-law Genevieve, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his loving partner Charlene. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21 at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. W. at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at RCL, Elmwood Branch #9, 920 Nairn Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Legion Athletic Camp.
