WILFRID (WILF) H. POINTON The family announces the passing of Wilfrid H. Pointon on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Remaining to forever cherish Wilf's memory are his son Linton and wife Ollie; as well as son-in-law Keith Baker. Missing their grandfather are Marissa and Craig Pointon, Darren and Alison Baker and Kyra and Ray Carriere; great-granddaughter Isabella shares the grief. Wilf will be missed by brothers Stan (Dell) and Alfred (Betty) as well as his sister, Ethel; and sadly missed by numerous other family members and a host of friends. He was predeceased by wife Isabel and daughter Merle as well as brothers John and Whitfield and his sister Edith. Wilf was born in , Saskatchewan February 13, 1922 where he grew up on the family farm. After graduating from high school he joined the army serving as a radio operator with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas. In 1948 Wilf came to Winnipeg to work for T. Eaton Co. Here he met and married Isabel Lockerby and together raised a family. In 1972 they moved to Toronto but returned in 1984 to share their retirement years with family. Wilf's career with the T. Eaton Co. as Traffic manager in Winnipeg and Toronto was a source of pride and devotion. He put his whole heart into his work and took pride in his accomplishments. Wilf was a long time member of the Wildewood Club where he golfed and curled. He joined masonry where he served his brethren as master of Three Pillars Lodge in 1965. Wilf was also a Shriner serving in the Ritualistic Unit. While work and social activities were a large part of Dad's life his number one commitment was his family. He talked endlessly about his grandchildren and attended many of their activities. His grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy. Wilf was fortunate to live at Deer Lodge Centre for the last seven months when he became unable to care for himself. All the staff at Deer Lodge and particularly those on T-5 Unit took great pains to make Dad's new residence a home. A private family interment will be held in the St. Vital Cemetery. A Masonic Funeral will be held on Monday, August 11, at 2:30 p.m. in the Masonic Memorial Temple, 420 Corydon Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson, presider. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and volunteers for their kindness and help. We would also thank Dr. Kevin Coates and Dr. Asad Junaid for their help over the years; finally the staff at Grace Emergency for their compassion as the end came near. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wilf's memory to Deer Lodge Centre T-5 ward.
